Cynthia Lynn Quesnel
July 8, 1963 – July 8, 2016

On Friday July 8, 2016 (her birthday), Cynthia passed away at the Health Sciences Centre.
Cynthia was the daughter of Joyce Quesnel and the late William Walton Quesnel. She will be sadly missed by her family, including siblings Kathy Athayde (Greg), Carl Quesnel (Tanis Thomas), Lisa Quesnel (Jay Gearey), Aunt Dorothy Hanks, and her eleven beloved nieces and nephews: Paul, Henry, Alex, Julia, Philip, Megan, James, Timothy, Jeremy, Dorothy and Lillian. Cynthia also had many good friends and co-workers at St. Boniface Hospital who will deeply feel her loss.
Born in Winnipeg, Cynthia attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.A. and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. She worked as a physiotherapist at St. Boniface Hospital from 1987 until her untimely and unexpected death. Her colleagues were her work family, and she enjoyed working alongside them in a profession she loved. She liked to surprise them with treats, celebrating joyous occasions and weathering trying times together over the years.
Cynthia’s nieces and nephews were her pride and joy. Their pictures decorated her home and workplace and she always knew the activities and likes of each and every one. She made regular visits to Toronto to see her family there, and loved spending Christmas and birthdays with family at home. The kids returned her love wholeheartedly and looked forward to visits and indulgences like “early birthday presents” or packages in the mail. Cynthia will be especially missed by her mother, and was her “right hand” in helping to care for her Aunt in recent years.
An avid gardener, Cynthia would start flowers and vegetables from seed and delight in watching them grow. She grew many vegetables she didn’t like for the pleasure of giving them to friends, family, and neighbours. She was also an animal lover and had many pets throughout her life. Each one held a special place in her heart, including her cats Molly and Jenny who will be cared for by family.
With her big warm heart and a giving nature, Cynthia was very easy to love. Her sense of humour was enjoyed by all who knew her and her friendship was treasured. She loved to read, was a born organizer and problem-solver, and had a near-photographic memory. You did not want to be on the opposing team in a trivia game.
Cynthia supported many charities and often provided a sympathetic ear and practical advice or assistance to anyone in need. To continue her legacy of giving, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Crohn’s & Colitis Canada or a charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.
Special thanks go out to TEAM CYNTHIA who helped out in her garden and provided much support, joy, love and a sympathetic ear for the physical therapy she had to put up with over the past few weeks. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm at St. Andrews Anglican Church - Woodhaven, 2700 Portage Ave.
