William “Bill” Anderson
March 22, 1926 - January 19, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and grandpa, William “Bill” Anderson, on January 19th, 2017 at the age of 90.

Following his service in the Canadian Armed Forces in the mid 1940’s, he married Laura Silzer, and eventually moved from Assiniboia, SK to Winnipeg. They settled in Crestview where they spent most of their 67 years of marriage. His working life was spent entirely with CP Rail, from which he retired in 1986. In retirement, he spent countless hours bowling and golfing with family and friends, as well as playing cards and “Bump” games with his grandkids. He made friends with virtually anyone, being the nicest and happiest guy around, always saying hello with a huge smile to random people to help cheer up their day!

Bill was predeceased by his wife Laura Anderson and his son Colin “Coke” Anderson. Also predeceasing him were his parents, Clarence and Maggie Anderson, and his brothers Hiram Anderson and Douglas Anderson.

He is survived by his daughter Darcine (John) Oades of Winnipeg, and son Blair Anderson of Calgary along with his four grandchildren; Kristian (Chelsea “Snicklebritches”) Nespor, Courtney Nespor, Logan Anderson, and Taylor Anderson, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his brothers, Ken (Arlene) Anderson and Norm (June) Anderson, and his sisters Audrey Heath and Beulah Gilday, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many in-laws who were a very close part of his family.

The family especially wants to send a huge thank you to the management and staff of the Salvation Army Golden West Lodge where Bill lived for the past few years. He loved them all, especially their teasing, jokes and laughter. They became his family. Their compassion, caring, and patience will always be appreciated. He truly loved living there.

As requested by family, a memorial service for Bill will take place in the spring of 2017. He will be interred at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue beside his wife Laura and his son Coke.

Bill suffered from Parkinson’s during the last part of his life. To ease other families’ battle with this disease, donations in Bill’s memory will be gratefully accepted for Parkinson Canada via their website (www.parkinson.ca).
