Ward Randall Einarson
March 22, 1965 – March 20, 2017

Ward passed away suddenly of natural causes at home at the age of 51.
Ward was predeceased by his parents and his beloved Gram Edna. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Bergner, daughter Kathleen Einarson (Jesse Dietschi), son Johnathan Einarson, and brother Kevin Einarson (Lillian). There is a large extended family in which Ward was known as “the fun uncle”.
Ward was born and raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba, the son of Kathleen and Philip Einarson. As a youth he played elite Bomber hockey as a goalie. He was one of those high-spirited kids. He was an Air Cadet and learned to fly and sail. Later he became a member of the Reserves with the 21st Field Engineers. He had an enduring feeling of connection to the military. As a young man Ward apprenticed as a butcher and could always find the very best steaks.
After high school, Ward came “south”. He attended University of Manitoba, Brandon University, and Assiniboine Community College, pursuing a truly eclectic array of studies. At BU Ward and Cheryl met and married. They were blessed with a daughter and a son, and Ward stayed at home with his children in their preschool years. He was an adoring, energetic daddy and was a strong, thoughtful father as his children grew.
Ward worked as a school computer technician at Robert Smith School in Selkirk and in White Horse Plains School Division before later becoming the Information Technology Coordinator in Prairie Rose School Division. He had a tremendous aptitude for technology and was a reluctant computer guru to many, many people.
Ward was a very fun person with a wicked sense of humour, and was wonderful company. He was simultaneously intensely serious and hilariously funny. He was a loyal friend to his lifelong buddies no matter how long between visits. Throughout his life, in all his circles, he was counted as a friend by many.
In recent years Ward devoted himself to caring for his family. He took deep pleasure in working in and around his home with his dog, Ty, constantly at his side. Ward was a wonderful host and was in his element when the pool was full of family and his barbeque was laden. Weather not permitting, you were in for a huge pickerel fish-fry. His enduring interests were aviation, military history, and international politics. ‘Football Sundays’ were a favourite ritual.
Ward was reserved, kind, honest, intelligent, methodical, and really funny. He had a deep sense of justice, dignity, and propriety. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27 at the Westwood Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers will be his son-in-law Jesse Dietschi, brother-in-law Keith Bergner, nephews Michael Juce and Leo Bergner, and four lifelong friends Darren Simms, Robert Osika, Matt Stevenson and Dennis Hamilton. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ward’s honour to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, 55 Pavilion Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2N6.
