Sadie Emma Hillyard (nee Lidstone)
May 27, 1928 – March 3, 2017

After a short illness Sadie Emma Hillyard (nee Lidstone) passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital with her family beside her on March 3, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband Varrick Hillyard, her father Archibald Lidstone, mother Elizabeth Lidstone and brother Roy Lidstone.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Sharon Swanlund, son Colin Hillyard (Suzanne), grandsons Kent Swanlund (Chantelle Cheema) and Mark Swanlund (Francine Billings) and sister Vera Norman as well as many other family and friends.
Sadie was born in Laurenceton, NL and remained on the island until 1959 when Varrick rejoined the army and the family moved to Edmonton, AB. An overseas posting in 1967 moved the family to Germany for 5 years, where she enjoyed many great family vacations. A move back to Canada in 1971 landed her in Winnipeg and a chance to settle down. Always someone who enjoyed work, she started at Athletes Wear a short time later and remained there until retiring at 65. She stayed in touch with the many friends she made while there and loved their get togethers. In retirement she continued to travel extensively with family and friends, a favorite trip being her 80th birthday family Caribbean cruise.
The family would like to thank the members of the Winnipeg Police Service and the Emergency Medical Services for their compassion and professionalism. We would also like to thank the exceptional staff at the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care of our mother. A private family internment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7
