Such a rarely beautiful life was that of Regina Geist.
It is with heart-breaking sadness the family announces the passing of Regina Geist on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Regina passed away at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 91, after a brief struggle with heart and lung diseases. Born September 5, 1925 in Valchid, Romania, a home to almost nine centuries of existence of a Saxon (German) community, she grew up and lived her childhood experiencing a rich heritage with old world traditions. Regina’s fondest childhood memories were of summers working and playing in her family’s vineyards. She enjoyed the fresh smells of the ripe vines and enjoyed working with her sister Anna picking and sampling. During wartime Regina was taken from her family, and through her amazing resiliency endured a horrendous journey through the many atrocities of war. At the end of the war she ended up in Germany where she met her soul mate Michael. Regina ventured to Canada in 1950 to be with her aunt and Michael followed in 1951. They were wed in 1952 and together they began their journey of building a new, fulfilling life in a new country. Regina enjoyed raising her three children, she ensured that they experienced her values and traditions with summer trips to Europe visiting relatives and adventuring the beautiful countryside that was once home to her. Regina was happiest in the company of family and friends, cooking a big meal and baking wonderful tortes and dainties. When her husband Michael passed away Regina discovered a new life at Lindenwood Terrace where she made many wonderful friends.
Regina was predeceased by her parents, George and Regina and her sister Anna and brother Hans.
