Olive Louise Gyles
(Olly Isford)
(nee Marshall)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother, Amma and Aunt on December 31, 2016 at the age of 90 years.

Olly was born in Winnipeg on April 19, 1926 and raised in West Kildonan. She married her first husband Edwin Isford (d:1974) in 1949 and is survived by her five children; Mündi (Judy), Carol (Doug), Kathleen (Paul), Virginia (David), Sigrid (Dave). She married her second husband Michael Gyles (d:1992) in 1980 and is survived by her three step children Sally, Michael (Donna) and Bob (Anne).

Olly had a long working life as a bookkeeper and office manager retiring in 1996. Family was her everything, she loved to laugh and gather with friends and neighbours. Olly loved to travel and regale us with stories and photos. One of her greatest joys was being an Amma to seventeen grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She hosted great family dinners and was an expert gravy maker.

Our Mother was an avid reader of the newspaper and enjoyed tackling the daily crossword. A great day for our Mom and Amma would include knitting, bowling a perfect game or drinking coffee on the deck in Gimli. The Lutheran church was a significant part of her life. A dedicated correspondent and family archivist, Olly valued the importance of staying in touch with family and friends and documenting family life events.

Our Mother will be greatly missed by all of those who were fortunate to have known her.
Our family would like to extend our thanks for the care provided to our Mother by the staff at the Simkin Centre. Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate her well lived life will take place in May 2017. In lieu of flowers a donation in Olly's memory can be made to the Winnipeg Children's Hospital (burn unit).
