JEFFREY LUCIEN CHARRIERE
(February 28, 1962 – November 28, 2014)

In the warmth of his home with his wife and daughter by his side, Jeff ended his long battle with cancer. He faced his illness as he did any difficult challenge he confronted - with courage, strength, determination, optimism and dignity. He was a fighter who was driven by his need to care for his family.

Waiting with open arms for him were Jeff’s sister Barbara Allary and sister-in-law Toni Hannesson. Together they have embraced Jeff and Barb’s nephew Brettyn Charriere who passed away the next day, and they will look after each other until we see them again.

Jeff is survived by the two loves of his life, his wife Jauna and daughter Liesette; parents Lucien and Bertha Charriere; sister Pat Younger and husband Bill (Tyler and Matthew); brother Doug and wife Nina (Riley and Camryn), brother-in-law Robin Allary (Devon, Dylan and Carlyn); parents-in-law Roy and Beverley Hannesson; brother-in-law Jeff Hannesson and wife Patri (Sydney, Camryn and Marlow); sister-in-law Jody Dubeck and husband Doug (Neil and Todd).

Jeff was born in Winnipeg and grew up in North Kildonan, graduating from River East Collegiate. He attended the University of Manitoba earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1984 and a Chartered Accountant designation in 1987. Jeff began his career with Clarkson Gordon, gaining the base of knowledge and experience that would serve to support his rise to partnership at Arthur Andersen, Ernst & Young and most recently Deloitte. Jeff’s intelligence and dedication allowed him to attain and succeed in his leadership roles, including Office Managing Partner (Winnipeg), National Assurance Partner, Managing Partner Markets (Canada) and Executive Committee member working in both Winnipeg and Toronto. Jeff was a gifted businessman, advisor and natural leader. He possessed exceptional technical skills, clear and strategic thinking, and business instincts. All those who were fortunate enough to have worked with Jeff knew his greatest talents were his unsurpassed people skills and client service. Jeff would take the time to understand the needs of both his colleagues and clients, and always worked to ensure that any and all issues were resolved. His genuine charisma and sincerity created a bond of trust that formed the basis of every relationship he entered, both personally and professionally. All of these abilities were enhanced by the integrity he possessed in all aspects of his life. Jeff believed strongly in doing the right thing even when the path was difficult, supporting and building up others, and gaining opportunities based on the merits of talent, hard work and honesty. Jeff mentored many colleagues by setting an example of succeeding without the compromise of values or principles.

As successful as he was in his professional life, Jeff believed his greatest blessing was his family. He was very passionate about his work, but there was nothing he loved more than being with his wife and daughter. From their first encounter in 1988, a chance meeting during lunch hour in Winnipeg Square, Jeff and Jauna fell in love and were inseparable. They were a perfect complement to each other, and continued to be through their 26 years together. They provided incredible strength to each other, especially as life threw them more curves than they deserved. They each knew they could never have had the amazing life they cherished without their boundless love for each other. Their lives were further enriched in 2000 with the birth of their beautiful Liesette. She brought them so much light and happiness; if you ever wanted to see Jeff's brilliant and contagious smile you just had to mention Liesette - he was so proud of her. The three of them always valued time with their extended families and especially enjoyed their Sunday visits with both Jeff and Jauna's parents. There was no doubt that Jeff's favourite place was the cottage at Clearwater Bay in Lake of the Woods. His joy of life was never more evident than when he was driving the boat and pulling Liesette and her cousins around on a tube, as he looked back at them smiling ear-to-ear and listened to their uncontrollable laughter. He loved sitting on the deck with Jauna in the evenings enjoying the beauty of their surroundings. Jeff would often stay up well into the late hours of the night, listening to the calls of the loons and looking out onto the lake; he treasured the serenity and peacefulness.

Jeff’s family would like to thank Dr. Brian O'Sullivan for his unwavering support and care, as well as Drs. Natasha Leighl and Lillian Siu at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto; Drs. David Chimilar, Alvin Schroeder, Garnet Crawford, Valerie Gordon and James Butler in Winnipeg; as well as nurses Mary, Judy and Angela. They would also like to thank their many caring friends; special thanks to Paul and Bonnie Cadieux, Wayne Hrab, Angele Prefontaine, and the Humphrey and Cunningham families for their love, help and support throughout Jeff’s illness and with final arrangements.

Funeral and mass will be held on Friday, December 12th at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, 264 Donwood Drive. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation in Jeff’s memory may be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

“Live beautifully, dream passionately, love completely.”
