Janis Gay Ferguson (nee Hunt)
August 24, 1944 – September 3, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt and cousin, Janis Ferguson. Born August 24, 1944, Janis lived in Winnipeg her entire life, growing up in Wildwood Park. After receiving her teacher’s training at the University of Manitoba, Janis married Frank Ferguson in 1972.
Despite experiencing many hardships, Janis was known for her giant heart and capacity for kindness. She was a devout Christian and a regular volunteer at various charities. A talented crocheter, joke-teller and devoted family historian, Janis had a gift for making people laugh and feel loved – particularly children. Janis also loved her dogs. They were like family to her and provided unconditional companionship to her throughout her life.
Janis was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by her brother, Stephen (1955); father, Gordon (1974); sister, Linda (1977); husband, Frank (1979); and mother, Beryl (1989). She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many other extended family and friends.
A celebration of Janis’ life will take place at Trinity Baptist Church, 549 Gertrude Avenue, on Friday, September 30th, 2016, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janis’ honour to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
