Fredrick Fraser Williams
With the comfort of his family at his side, Fraser Williams peacefully passed away, at the age of 89, on January 5, 2017 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg.
Fraser is fondly remembered by his two sons Scott, his wife Susan of Calgary and their children Jennifer, Kate and Ian; and Lee of Winnipeg.
He will also be remembered and missed by his sister Violet Fellows, brother Bruce Williams, sister-in-law Edith Williams, sister-in-law Doreen Frame and by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fraser is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce, his daughter Lynne, who passed away at the tender age of 7, his parents Joseph and Bessie (nee Bruce), his sister Betty, and brothers James and Sidney.
He was described by all who knew him as a gentle, kind, darling man with a wickedly dry sense of humour. He was born January 19, 1927 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and grew up just down the road in his beloved Barney’s River.
After high school Fraser worked in New Glasgow, Toronto and Halifax, attended business school in Halifax and then joined the RCAF in 1950. He was soon transferred to Lachine, Quebec where he met the love of his life, Joyce Frame. They were married on May 22, 1954. They soon began their travels, first moving to Edmonton where Lynne was born in 1956. Interspersed with these postings, Dad served - without Mom at his side - in Churchill, MB and Naples, Italy. In 1959 they moved to Whitehorse, Yukon and in 1960 Scott was born. They then travelled to Trenton, Ontario followed soon after by a posting to Toronto where Lee was born in 1963. In 1965 they moved to Winnipeg and lived in St. James. Next was an opportunity to move overseas. In 1968 they moved to Ramstein, Germany and spent their holidays travelling through Germany, Austria, France, Belgium and England. 1971 brought a return to Winnipeg for a second time. In 1974 they moved to Victoria, BC and a year later Dad retired from the Armed Forces. Not one to stand still for long, Dad then embarked on a 13 year career as a letter carrier in Winnipeg with Canada Post.
In retirement Fraser enjoyed golfing, reading, birding and puttering around the house. He enjoyed spending time with kin, neighbours and friends and was always able to make people laugh and leave smiling. Above all else though, Dad loved just being with Mom and missed her deeply following her death in 2010. In 2014, Dad sold the house and moved into the Dakota House where he enjoyed the company of many friends and the support of wonderful staff for two years.
We miss you already Dad but know you are at peace and reunited with your true love.
Our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Riverview for the loving care and the support you gave Fraser and his family each day.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverview Health Centre or to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service and celebration of Fraser’s life will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 am at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave, Winnipeg.
