Francisco (John) Taylor
Francisco Taylor passed away peacefully, early October 12, 2016 surrounded by his family at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Francisco was born March 3, 1930 in Scotts Hall, St. Mary, Jamaica. The youngest of six siblings of Simon and Ethel Taylor (affectionately known as John by friends and Babe by family). He pursued a career in carpentry and became an excellent craftsman, well known for his attention to detail. However, this paled in comparison to his culinary skills in Jamaican cuisine.
In 1959 John left the beautiful island of Jamaica to discover the opportunities available to him in Great Britain. Once there he met and married Phyllis Elaine Reid in 1962 and this union produced 3 beautiful daughters. After 14 years, John and family immigrated and settled in Winnipeg. As a carpenter he worked in several provinces across Canada. In 1995 after experiencing health issues John retired from his career as a carpenter. Although retired he stayed quite active, attending the Reh-Fit Centre 3x per week, fishing, vegetable and herb gardening, travelling and was an avid WWW wrestling fan.
Later in life, he attended Bethel Baptist Church along with his wife Phyllis and it was during this time he gave his heart to the Lord. John and his wife put their culinary skills to good use as leaders of the church’s senior’s lunch program for 10 years.
John is survived by his wife Phyllis and daughters Paulette, Keren (Alf), Marlene and Dawn; stepdaughter Paula (Michael); grandchildren Allan, Rick (Melanie), Stephen, Jessica, Michele, Ryan, Teressa, Marlene and Charmaine, great-grandchildren Kaylen, Mia, Madeline, Ricardo, Jamal, Sydney, Tabitha, Patrick, Andrea, Crystal and Delamodo; surviving sister Gudelda Burke; nieces Monica (Noelle) and Sandra; nephew Ewan (Jackie); grandnieces Janine (Shawn), Lenreya, Dahlia, Melissa, Kristen and Ashley; grandnephews Skeifa (Patricia) and Jonathan; great-grandnieces Sydney, Joelle and Elyse; as well as many friends and acquaintances.
Over the past 21 years John has received excellent care from a variety of health care professionals. The family wish to thank Drs. A. Schroeder, A. Boyd, L. Homik and W. Czarnecki, and the staff of Riverview Healthcare Centre who went above and beyond to ensure his final days were comfortable and peaceful.

A viewing will be held on Monday, October 17th 2016 from 7:00-9:00 PM, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 18th 2016 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 205 Roseberry Street.

Internment and Reception to follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue
