Frances Sopko (nee Syrnyk)
May 29, 1928 – Dec. 24, 2016

It is with deepest sorrow, love and heartfelt memories that the family announces the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and GG.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Victoria Syrnyk; sister Mary (Charles) Papp; and her husband of almost 61 years, Lou, in 2006.
Lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sharon (Wade) Benjaminson and Darlene (Gary) Willis; grandsons Gary (Jennifer) Benjaminson, Bryan (Fawn) Benjaminson, Dustin Willis (Marie), and granddaughter Kristin Willis; adored great grandchildren Royal, Cruise and Lily Benjaminson; Brittany, Kaden and Lacey Willis; many nephews and nieces and her best friend of 51 years Marge Willis.
Mom married dad August 25, 1945 and bravely moved from Winnipeg to the small farming town of Osborne where she quickly learned her multi-faceted role as a farmer’s wife. She always claimed her most cherished years were raising her daughters. We were so blessed to always feel adored, loved and nurtured.
Upon moving back to Winnipeg in 1961, mom worked as a much valued bookkeeper for Naleway Foods and Caterers besides assisting dad with seeding and harvesting on their farm.
After selling the farm in 1977, mom and dad loved spending winters in California, Arizona, Florida and especially Hawaii. Their holidays were always enhanced when joined by their daughters and their families.
Mom enjoyed curling, bowling, golfing, playing cards, bingo, the Bombers and Jets, and was a fabulous cook.
Mom recently moved to River Ridge Retirement Residence where she endeared herself to many new and wonderful friends including the loving and caring staff.
She especially loved and devoted herself to her family. We have lost a truly beloved, caring, supportive and precious soul whose kindness, grace, selflessness, thoughtfulness, empathy, understanding and non-judgemental acceptance of others will live through her family and friends fortunate enough to have known her.
Mom you have left a wonderful legacy for your family. No longer in our lives to share but in our hearts, you are always there. We love you!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations in mom’s memory may be made to Heart & Stroke, Cancer Care or a charity of choice.
