Obituary

Charlie (Chas) Lye will be lovingly remembered by his wife Paula and their daughter Mary; his parents Charles Lye and Donna McMillan, Jennifer Lye and Wayne Wiste, and Doug and Mary Warsaba. He will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters Julie McMillan (Glen Ehasoo), Valerie (Campbell Harland), Chris (Violet), Allison Pfeiffer (Doug), Christian Wiste (Jamie), and Paul Wiste (Christine); Paula’s brothers Mark Warsaba (Kathryn Stanton) and Adam Warsaba (Erin) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Charlie treasured his relationship with Paula. The love he had for her was deep and pure. The commitment they shared will live on through their daughter Mary. Charlie was thrilled when Mary was born and was a loving, patient and proud father. Charlie’s relationships with his close friends were of great significance and provided richness to his life that he was most proud of and humbled by. Notable among his friends were Patrick Jones, Bob Reidy, Sean Lepper, Peter Handregan, Kris Kopansky, Jeff Senebald, Steve Moon, Mike Collyer, Jen Sanchez and his Dad. He also loved and cherished his relationship with Paula’s BFFs Nikki Palmer Jones and Kristin Sidoryk. Charlie admired their special bond and was honoured to receive their never-ending love and support.

Charlie was blessed with many special gifts. His quick wit and ready smile always put people at ease and was the foundation for his life long friendships. He was a true hewer of wood and has left a legacy of beautiful projects completed for family and friends. He loved Mary’s hugs and giggles; swinging a hammer; crisp fall mornings; NFL football; anything 100% cotton; pork noodle soup with Patty and Bob; a good read; teasing his sister Julie who always bit; eating sunflower seeds while reading the paper on the deck at Clear Lake; fishing despite having to wear heavy gloves to handle the fish; making crepes for Sunday breakfast and sauces from scratch (the more garlic the better); anything Willie; well-made furniture, especially when handcrafted by him. He did not like mushrooms; litterbugs; going to the dentist; button-down collars; the way his beard grew or didn’t as it were; driving a dirty vehicle; uncomfortable silence and confrontation; cheap sauté pans; FM radio; reading fiction.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, February 1 at Breezy Bend Country Club at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Forward House Ministries, www.forwardhouse.ca.

Charles: practical, intellectual; jovial, cynic; wry, caring man. You were, and will remain, my friend. Paula and Mary, may you draw upon the good from your memories of Charlie to find resilience, guidance and love.

Charlie and I grew up together at RWP and Oak Park, and we were good friends in the few years after graduation. We lost touch but I have thought of you often my friend and I am so, so saddened that you are gone. I hope you are in a peaceful place and that your sweet daughter grows up hearing from all your family and friends what a kind-hearted, funny and special man her dad was. My deepest condolences to Paula, the whole family and to Pat, Bob, and all the guys who I know are devestated by the loss of their best friend.

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear about Charlie's passing. To his family, friends, wife and daughter please accept my most heartfelt condolences on his sudden & tragic passing.

Charlie and I grew up together from the time we were wee little kids. I watched him grow from a little scamp of a boy full of laughter and mischief to a man who was strong, charismatic & good natured but still full of laughter and mischief. He was one of the good ones and taken from this world way too soon!!!

I'll miss you Chas!

Sincerely,

Love
